The Coast Guard released footage of the September 2nd 2019, morning boat fire which killed 34 people

The Coast Guard found that all six crew members were asleep when the fire started. The fire sank the boat off the coast of Santa Cruz and all the crew except for one who was sleeping below deck escaped.

Everyone else died in the blaze. It's a story I wanted answers to.

It is the worst maritime disaster in California since the sinking of the Brother Jonathan in 1865, and the deadliest in the United States overall since the USS Iowa turret explosion in 1989.‚Äč

A report from a surviving crew member is a lesson for all of us when it comes to charging our phones and other devices while we sleep.

Be careful out there.
